The hospital was initially run by volunteers overseas, but since 2002 it has been staffed by the local people.

This hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services, OPD services, and other services required by the locals living in the region. This hospital also has several smaller service centers along with the trail and Solukhumbu villages, which provides first aid services to the trekkers.

2.   Pasang Lhamu – Nicole Niquille Hospital

The Pasang Lhamu – Nicole Niquille Hospital is located in Lukla at the height of 2,800m and is also known as the Lukla Hospital. This hospital is one of the most prestigious hospitals in the region in terms of the modern services it provides and is managed by a non-profit, social, and non-governmental organization i.e., the Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation.

The facilities provided by this hospital includes inpatient and outpatient services, specialists in altitude sickness, X-rays, dental healthcare, eye clinic, first aid services, and maternity care. This hospital is fully staffed with highly trained and professional locals living in the area.

3.   Phaplu Hospital

Phaplu Hospital is located in the Solu Dudhkunda municipality, which is situated in the southern region of the Solukhumbu district, which is one of the more densely populated areas in this area. This hospital was also the venture of volunteers from overseas, mainly from New Zealand, and it used to be staffed by volunteers doctors and paramedical staff from New Zealand. In 1985, the Phaplu Hospital came under the Nepal government’s control and hence was made the district hospital for the Solukhumbu district.

The facilities provided by this hospital are inpatient and outpatient services, emergency services in case of critical accidents, immunization services, first kit aids, OPD services, and maternity services.
