This project will help decongest and enable a smooth flow for Mumbai’s traffic to Navi Mumbai and help connect Navi Mumbai with the Konkan region.
2. Navi Mumbai International Airport
The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is a project that is still under construction and is under the process of building phase one. This airport, constructed at Ulwe Kopar – Panvel in Maharashtra, is estimated to handle 20 million passengers in a year after phase one and 90 million passengers after the entire project’s completion. The Sewri-Nhava Sheva bridge on completion will connect the south and the central Mumbai to the airport, making it feasible to reach the airport within 30 minutes. The NMIA will be the second international airport in Mumbai, making Mumbai the premier metropolis in India to have more than one airport. This project, after construction, is expected to create more than 4 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
Mumbai Underground Metro
Another major infrastructure project that is coming up in Mumbai is the Colaba – Bandra Speez line. This ongoing underground metro project done by the Mumbai Metro Railway Corporation (MMRCL) is currently undergoing its third phase. The underground tunnel will be 33.5 km long and will be the first underground metro in Mumbai. This project aims to help reduce the traffic congestion in Mumbai, especially between Bandra and Churchgate, enabling convenient transit. This metro line will connect with Mumbai’s major commercial centers, such as Goregaon, BKC, Worli, Nariman point, etc. It will also help provide connectivity to the CSIA, SPEEZ, and MIDC.
